Kuala Lumpur, 27 May 2011
d7, a stunning piece of 7-storey architecture located in Sentul East, recently won the Singapore Institute of Architects (SIA) Architectural Design Award with honourable mention for the commercial office building category.
Developed by YTL Land & Development Berhad and designed by RT+Q Architects Pte Ltd, d7 was conceptualized to redefine traditional office spaces and offer a new type of office environment in Kuala Lumpur. Featuring cutting-edge duplex sky offices, and boutique offices with retail and F&B outlets, encased in a lush landscaped courtyard atrium area, d7 was designed to create work space for organizations who wants to be able to differentiate themselves.
The low-rise office building around an open air courtyard allows a seamless integration between social and commercial.
“The courtyard comprises gardens and communal spaces providing abundance of natural light, shade and ventilation amidst the tropical weather of Malaysia. With outdoor seating, landscaping, patios, transparent elevators and sky bridges, the courtyard is set to enhance the unique urban experience that d7 offers,” said Dato’ Yeoh Seok Kian, Executive Director of YTL Land & Development Berhad.
The building in itself is an iconic form – bold, simple and with a severe façade dominated by ‘L’ shaped slivers that form windows. The idea was to create a different, strong and unified façade for d7. The metallic and grey characteristic was intended as a contrast to the prevailing context. The L-shape windows also reflect the inter-locking spatial character of the office suites. Most office buildings are normally uniform and homogeneous in form and character, but at d7 the uneven shapes of the windows differentiates the interior environment of each and every office providing an individual identity for each office.
According to SIA, the intimate scale of the building in relation to the streetscape and courtyard won the juries. The facade treatment and link bridges above the courtyard further refines the scale and intimacy factor.
Completed in December 2010, d7 is the first commercial project in Sentul West and Sentul East master plan.

About Sentul West & Sentul East
Designed to revitalize and regenerate this historical part of KL, Sentul was conceptualised in two distinct areas; Sentul West and Sentul East, each characterised by its own unique personality. Sentul West is a haven of greenery, housing exclusive residences, offices and shops bordering on a 35-acre private gated park. Sentul East was developed in the context of Jalan Sentul, seen as a combustion of vibrant Malaysian flavours that sets the tone for modern downtown living while retaining the colourful heritage of Sentul. In total the master plan covers 294 acres of prime freehold land and will be completed in phases over the next 10 years.
